The 2013 Southeast Alaska Garden Conference will feature a series of lectures from notable Southeast Alaskan gardeners, hands on workshops and tours of Skagway’s current and past garden legacy with Keynote Speaker Jeff Lowenfels, author of “Teaming with Microbes, A Gardener’s Guide to the Soil Food Web.” Garden enthusiasts will be thrilled at the selection of topics ranging from gardening for Alaska's pollinators to cooking with local edibles through the science behind the process of composting. The conference will have activities for kids and tours of Skagway’s finest gardens and historic garden sites, which includes the Klondike Gold Rush National Park’s Herbarium.
The cost of registration for the conference is $99 and includes a Friday evening opening reception at the Red Onion’s Bombay Room; Keynote and Saturday program at the Arctic Brotherhood Hall; Saturday continental breakfast; garden tours; lunch at the Westmark Hotel featuring Laurie Constantino author of “Tastes Like Home, Mediterranean Cooking in Alaska;” glassblowing demonstration and dinner at Jewell Gardens; and Sunday workshops. This year’s conference is hosted by the Skagway Garden Club and sponsored by the Skagway Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Municipality of Skagway has approved the use of the parking area at Seven Pastures for overnight camping for conference attendees. This is set up as an OVERFLOW AREA ONLY, if hotel rooms & RV Parks are full to capacity. Please let us know if you cannot find accommodations and will need to utilize this area.
Children Conference Program
Courtney Mason will be hosting a Children's Garden Program for children ages 3 to 10, 8am to 2pm on Saturday, July 20th. The cost for the day is $10.00 per child. There is limited space so please make sure to register your child as soon as possible to guarantee admission. Weather permitting, it will be held in the Jewell Gardens. Otherwise it will be held at the Skagway Recreation Center. Food is not included so make sure to pack your child a lunch. Children may join parents on the Bus for the City / Gardens Tour,
